Test products before committing yourself
Sensitive skin reacts to factors usually tolerated by “ordinary” skin. It is therefore important, before adopting a product, to test it on a small part of your face. If you experience no discomfort within 24 hours of applying it, it’s good news—you’ve found the right product for you!
When choosing make-up for sensitive skin, you have to be very careful! The list of ingredients must hold no secrets for you. Make sure that the product meets all safety criteria, notably in terms of being hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. Also, remember to look out for the words “Nickel Tested,” which indicates that the product has been formulated to minimize its nickel content and hence the risk of allergic reactions.
Focus on your best allies
Your sensitive skin does not have only enemies, so it’s important you get to know your allies! Regarding make-up, go for hypoallergenic, non-greasy, and non-comedogenic formulas rich in moisturizers and antioxidants. Prefer light textures that do not clog pores and allow the skin to breathe. Finally, opt for products that also provide protection against external aggressors, such as the sun and pollution.
Thermal spring water, a smart choice
Spraying La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water all over your face after applying your make-up will make it last longer while also softening, moisturizing, and protecting your skin thanks to its unique combination of minerals and trace elements, including selenium which has recognized anti-oxidant properties.
Look after your products, and they’ll return the favor
Your beauty products care for your skin. But do you take care of your beauty products?! To ensure they remain as effective and pleasant to use as on the first day, store them in a cool, dry place (so maybe not in the bathroom). Never leave them uncovered and in contact with the air, and clean your brushes after each use.
THE ESSENTIAL ROLE OF SKINCARE
The most important step in any sensitive-skin beauty routine is skincare. And for it to be perfectly healthy, skin must above all be clean, so make sure you cleanse it thoroughly. But beware, purifying your skin does not mean stripping it bare. Avoid using water every day to remove make-up, because it is often too hard and therefore irritant. Opt instead for either a cleansing milk or micellar water, whichever your skin prefers—there is just one watchword: gentleness! And before you apply your make-up, always use a day cream for greater comfort and optimum hold. One final trick is to use a hybrid product, such as Hydreane BB, as a make-up base.
