MANAGING IT AT SCHOOL

Article Read Duration 3 min read

For kids with eczema, the long school day can be extra challenging because many things can trigger itching attacks… which can make it tough to concentrate. Here are our top tips for managing eczema at school:
• Keep cool by wearing layers you can take off if you get too hot. • Take extra care during PE as sweat can make skin super itchy: Wear loose clothes and carry a towel or some tissues to keep skin dry.

SCHOOL: EXTRA CHALLENGING
FOR CHILDREN WITH ECZEMA

For many kids, school can be a mixed bag. They get to socialise and make friends, as well as having fun at break and lunchtime, but they also have to put in the hours studying. For children with atopic eczema, the long school day can be even more challenging, because school is full of atopic eczema triggers that can cause flare-ups… and that can make concentrating really hard :(

To help them, here are some simple tips to stop atopic eczema from getting the better of children at school!

GOLDEN RULE 1:
TO ZAP ITCHING DUE TO DRYNESS ON THE GO,
KEEP YOUR STICK WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES!

Irritations from very dry skin condition can strike at school, so be prepared

Every kid with an atopic eczema-prone skin needs something extra alongside the school-bag usuals like books and pencil cases. They need a mini itch-buster to take wherever they go: LIPIKAR Stick AP+! They can keep it in their school bag or pocket so they can swirl it over any itches caused by atopic eczema-prone skin triggers… to zap flare-ups before they begin! LIPIKAR Stick AP+ is a carry-anywhere atopic-prone skin solution for toddlers and children to take to nursery or school. Think of it as a super handy cream in the form of a stick.

GOLDEN RULE 2:
DON’T GET TOO HOT IN THE CLASSROOM!

Atopic eczema in children and toddlers is made worse by hot environments

Classrooms can sometimes be hot and stuffy, and that can make children with atopic eczema itch more. In fact, hot environments are a top atopic eczema trigger. Make sure they wear a t-shirt under their sweater, so they can take a layer of clothing off if they get too warm. The best room temperature for atopic eczema is about 18-20 degrees – why not ask the teacher if they can have a thermometer in the classroom?

GOLDEN RULE 3:
DON’T GET CAUGHT OUT IN THE PLAYGROUND!

Be ready when atopic eczema flares up at break time.

Break time should be an opportunity for fun, but with all the running around and eczema triggers like pollen in the air, skin can start itching. Remind children to keep their Stick in their pocket so they can stop any itches on the spot. Think of it as an eczema cream for toddlers and children that they can carry with them wherever they go.

GOLDEN RULE 4:
TAKE SPECIAL CARE DURING PE CLASS!

Atopic eczema in children can flare up during exercise

Whether you love or loathe PE, getting all hot and sweaty can often make skin super itchy. In fact, sweat is a known eczema trigger that can cause eczema flare ups. In PE class, make sure children wear loose clothes and carry a little towel or some tissues to dab their skin if they get sweaty.
